Bahamas and Zeus headline an inaugural expanded festival weekend featuring live street art, skateboarding, BBQ, local music, markets and more across Downtown Barrie

Barrie, ON  – Downtown Barrie is getting ready for a Troubadour Festival experience unlike anything the festival has presented before.

For the first time, Troubadour Festival presented by Paul Sadlon Motors expands into a two-day community festival, bringing live music, street art, food, skateboarding, local makers, vintage vendors and Canadian musical talent together in the heart of Downtown Barrie.

The celebration begins Friday evening in Meridian Place before expanding across Dunlop Street East and West on Saturday, culminating with five-time JUNO Award winner and Barrie-raised singer-songwriter Bahamas, with acclaimed Toronto rock band Zeus opening the main-stage concert.

Friday Night: Surf, Music and an Outdoor Movie

Supported by Experience Ontario, Friday sets the tone with a relaxed summer evening in Meridian Place inspired by the music and surf culture of Jack Johnson.

At 7:30 PM, Canadian singer-songwriter Jon Bryant will perform a live tribute to Johnson’s unmistakable catalogue. Jon Bryant has built a 15-year career around emotionally honest songwriting, intimate storytelling and deeply human connection. With more than 150 million global streams, his catalogue includes fan favourites “Headphones,” “Light,” “Wilderness,” and “At Home,” alongside acclaimed albums Twenty Something and Cult Classic. Praised by outlets including The Line of Best Fit and Atwood Magazine, Bryant continues to connect with audiences through music defined by authenticity, vulnerability and emotional depth.

At 9:00 PM, the big screen lights up for an outdoor presentation of Jack Johnson’s Surfilmusic, connecting Johnson’s surfing roots with the music, friendships and experiences that have shaped his creative life.

It’s an easygoing opening night before Saturday turns the entire downtown into festival grounds.

Saturday: Downtown Barrie Becomes the Festival

Beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday, Troubadour Festival expands across Dunlop Street East, Dunlop Street West and Meridian Place, with something different happening around nearly every corner.

On Dunlop West, the Billy Dicks BBQ Amateur Community Cook-Off puts local grill masters to the test in chicken thigh and rib competitions. The smokers fire up early, with judging and the BBQ Awards Ceremony at 4:00 PM.

The Barrie Skateboarding Association will take over another section of Dunlop West with demonstrations and competitions throughout the day, while the Troubadour West End Street Stage keeps the soundtrack going with Tia Nova taking the stage at 12 noon, followed by local band Kick at 3:00 PM.

On Dunlop East, shopping takes centre stage. The Brightside Collective Market brings together crafters, makers and mom-preneurs, while the New To You Vintage Vendor Market presents its final showcase of the season in front of On The Mark Vintage.

Connecting Dunlop Street East with Meridian Place will be one of the weekend’s most distinctive cultural experiences: a Live Street Art Showcase featuring local and international artists creating original work in real time. Festival-goers can watch the pieces evolve throughout the day, bringing visual art directly into the streets alongside the music and activity.

Local Talent to Canadian Headliners

At 5:00 PM, attention turns to the Troubadour Main Stage in Meridian Place with the return of the Local Opener Showcase, a cornerstone of the festival that gives emerging artists the opportunity to perform in a professional festival environment before thousands of music fans.

At 7:30 PM, Toronto’s Zeus takes the stage. The Polaris Music Prize-nominated rock band has earned acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR and SPIN for a sound built around rich harmonies, infectious melodies and classic rock craftsmanship.

Then, at 8:30 PM, Bahamas comes home.

Born in Toronto and raised in Barrie, Afie Jurvanen has become one of Canada’s most celebrated singer-songwriters. As Bahamas, he has earned five JUNO Awards, including Songwriter of the Year, surpassed one billion global streams, and built an internationally acclaimed catalogue blending folk, soul and pop with direct, unmistakably personal songwriting.

“This expanded Troubadour format is about bringing all the different pieces of Downtown Barrie together,” says Chas Hay, music producer at Hey Bear Productions. “Music is at the heart of the festival, but throughout the weekend people will also discover local artists, food, skateboarding, markets and businesses. It’s a chance for the whole community to come downtown, explore, and be part of something together.”

From Friday night’s outdoor movie to Saturday’s final song, this inaugural two-day format represents the next evolution of Troubadour Festival and another major weekend of summer activity in Downtown Barrie, graciously supported by the Government of Ontario through Experience Ontario.
