Troubadour Festival Takes Over Downtown Barrie – Friday, August 14 & Saturday, August 15

Barrie, ON  –  This weekend, Downtown Barrie becomes the stage as Troubadour Festival presented by Paul Sadlon Motors returns with its first expanded two-day experience, bringing together live music, film, food, skateboarding, street art, markets and community programming.

From Friday night’s outdoor movie to Saturday’s final song, this inaugural two-day format represents the next evolution of Troubadour Festival and another major weekend of summer activity in Downtown Barrie, graciously supported by the Government of Ontario through Experience Ontario.

It all leads to Saturday night’s free concert in Meridian Place featuring Barrie-raised, five-time JUNO Award winner Bahamas, with acclaimed Canadian rock band Zeus and three emerging artists from the Local Opener Showcase.

Here’s how to experience the weekend.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 14 | MERIDIAN PLACE

7:30 PM – Jon Bryant: A Tribute to Jack Johnson

Friday night starts with Canadian singer-songwriter Jon Bryant performing a special tribute to Jack Johnson in Meridian Place.

Bryant has built a 15-year career around emotionally honest songwriting, intimate storytelling and human connection. With more than 150 million global streams, his catalogue includes fan favourites “Headphones,” “Light,” “Wilderness” and “At Home,” alongside acclaimed albums Twenty Something and Cult Classic. Praised by outlets including The Line of Best Fit and Atwood Magazine, Bryant brings his own accomplished musical background to this special tribute performance.

9:00 PM – Surfilmusic

As darkness falls, the outdoor screen lights up for Jack Johnson’s Surfilmusic. Directed by Emmett Malloy, the film explores the connection between Johnson’s surfing roots and music, with appearances from friends and collaborators including Kelly Slater and Ben Harper.

Bring a lawn chair, grab dinner downtown and settle in for an easygoing Friday night of live music and film under the summer sky.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 15 | DUNLOP STREET + MERIDIAN PLACE

10:00 AM – Troubadour Festival Opens

Dunlop Street becomes festival grounds for a full day of music, food, art, shopping and activity.

All Day – Dunlop Street West

The Billy Dicks BBQ Amateur Community Cook-Off fires up with competitors battling over chicken thighs and ribs, while the Barrie Skateboarding Association hosts demonstrations and competitions throughout the day.

All Day – Dunlop Street East

Shop the Brightside Collective Market, featuring local crafters, makers and mom-preneurs, alongside the New To You Vintage Vendor Market’s final showcase of the season.

All Day – Dunlop Street East & Meridian Place

Watch art take shape right on the street as local and international artists create live works throughout the day.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM | West End Street Stage

Tia Nova returns to Troubadour Festival after being selected as one of the festival’s Youth Local Openers in 2025, bringing another homegrown Troubadour artist back to the stage as part of this year’s expanded festival experience.

3:00 PM | West End Street Stage

Local band Kick takes the stage.

4:00 PM | Dunlop Street West

The grills cool down and the bragging rights begin with judging and the Billy Dicks BBQ Cook-Off Awards Ceremony.

SATURDAY NIGHT | TROUBADOUR MAIN STAGE – MERIDIAN PLACE

5:00 PM – Local Opener Showcase

The popular showcase returns with three emerging artists selected to experience the Troubadour main stage: B Knox | Noah Ruttan | Jolie Anastasia

7:30 PM – Zeus

Polaris Music Prize-nominated Toronto rock band Zeus brings its signature harmonies, infectious hooks and classic-meets-modern rock sound to Meridian Place.

8:30 PM – Bahamas

The night belongs to Bahamas. Raised in Barrie, Afie Jurvanen returns home as one of Canada’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, with five JUNO Awards, more than one billion global streams, and a catalogue that includes favourites such as Lost in the Light, All the Time and Stronger Than That.
