From surf films and storytelling to live music, local artists, skateboarding, BBQ, and street culture, Troubadour Festival continues to redefine the summer festival experience.

Barrie, ON  – One of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals is back with its most immersive weekend yet.

On Friday, August 14 and Saturday, August 15, Troubadour Festival presented by Paul Sadlon Motors transforms Downtown Barrie into a celebration of music, art, food, and community, culminating with an unforgettable evening featuring five-time JUNO Award winner Bahamas, acclaimed Canadian rock band Zeus, and the return of the popular Local Opener Showcase in Meridian Place.

Following a breakout 2025 season that welcomed more than 15,000 attendees and earned provincial recognition from Festivals & Events Ontario, the 2026 festival expands beyond the main stage, inviting visitors to experience Downtown Barrie through multiple performance spaces, interactive programming, and free family-friendly activities stretching from the waterfront to Dunlop Street.

A Friday Night Inspired by Surf, Songwriting, and Storytelling

The weekend begins Friday evening with a unique celebration of music and surf culture.

A Jack Johnson Tribute Band sets the tone before an outdoor screening of Jack Johnson’s Surfilmusic, presented with the generous support of Experience Ontario.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Emmett Malloy, Surfilmusic traces Johnson’s lifelong connection between surfing and songwriting, blending breathtaking ocean cinematography with intimate musical performances and stories from friends and collaborators including surfing legend Kelly Slater, singer-songwriter Ben Harper, and other influential artists who helped shape Johnson’s creative journey.

More than a concert film, Surfilmusic explores how creativity, nature, and community intersect—making it a fitting opening to a festival rooted in authentic musical storytelling.

A Canadian Double Bill Takes Centre Stage

Saturday evening belongs to two of Canada’s most respected musical acts.

Closing the night is Bahamas, the musical project of Barrie-raised singer-songwriter Afie Jurvanen, whose unmistakable blend of folk, soul, country, and pop has earned him international acclaim.

A five-time JUNO Award winner, including Songwriter of the Year, Bahamas has amassed more than one billion streams worldwide while selling out theatres across North America. His catalogue includes beloved songs such as Lost In The Light, All The Time, and Stronger Than That, while recent albums including Bootcut and My Second Last Album showcase an artist continually evolving without ever losing the warmth and honesty that define his songwriting.

Throughout his career, Jurvanen has collaborated with artists including Jack Johnson, Feist, The Lumineers, City and Colour, Zeus, and The Weather Station, cementing his place among Canada’s most influential contemporary musicians.

Opening for Bahamas is Zeus, one of Canada’s most celebrated modern rock bands.

Since emerging with their Polaris Music Prize-nominated debut Say Us, Zeus has earned widespread acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, SPIN, NPR, and KCRW, while building a devoted following through soaring harmonies, timeless songwriting, and electrifying live performances.

As the band celebrates the upcoming release of Lost & Found: The Say Us Archives, marking the 15th anniversary of their acclaimed debut, festival audiences can expect a performance that blends fan favourites with the musicianship that has made Zeus one of Canada’s most respected rock acts.

Tomorrow’s Stars Take the Stage First

One of Troubadour Festival’s defining features returns with the Local Opener Showcase, giving emerging artists the opportunity to perform on the same stage as nationally celebrated musicians.

Opening the festival evening are three outstanding performers selected through an independent jury process.

B Knox brings his distinctive blend of alt-country and Americana, pairing heartfelt songwriting with gritty rock influences. Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland and now based north of Toronto, his music has earned recognition from AmericanaUK, Folk Radio UK, CBC, SiriusXM, and international radio while receiving shortlist recognition from both the Canadian Country Music Association and the International Songwriting Competition.

Noah Ruttan, a rising singer-songwriter from Bracebridge, continues to build momentum following his 2026 North of Nowhere Music Festival Emerging Artist Showcase victory. Rooted in country, folk, and Americana traditions, Ruttan’s honest songwriting and Muskoka roots make him one of Ontario’s exciting young voices.

Completing the showcase is Jolie Anastasia, whose intimate blend of folk and Americana explores themes of love, resilience, belonging, and human connection. Her timeless songwriting and captivating stage presence provide a thoughtful opening to an evening built around storytelling.

More Than a Concert

Troubadour Festival is designed as a full-day celebration of creativity.

Throughout Saturday, Dunlop Street West comes alive with the Troubadour Street Stage, featuring live local performances that keep music flowing throughout the downtown core.

The aroma of smoke and competition fills the air during the Billy Dicks BBQ Cook Off, where barbecue enthusiasts showcase their craft while visitors sample incredible flavours throughout the day.

Skateboarding returns as one of the festival’s signature activations, with demonstrations and competitions highlighting the creativity and athleticism of Barrie’s growing skateboarding community.

Adding another layer to the experience, live artists will transform blank canvases into vibrant works of street art, creating public art in real time and celebrating the connection between music, visual arts, and community expression.

Combined with Downtown Barrie’s restaurants, patios, cafés, retailers, and waterfront setting, the result is a festival experience that encourages visitors to spend the entire day exploring everything the downtown has to offer.
