“We are Scary Company. My name is Claudia. I’m the owner. We love telling history in a fun and entertaining way. We run our Ghost Tours Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. Starting in mid summer and into the fall. Our final (sold out) Ghost Tour of the year is going to be this evening (October 30th) here in Downtown Barrie.

We’re really excited. We had an amazing season. Lots of tours. Lots of excitement. Always something fun going on downtown. We love the support of the Downtown Barrie BIA and Tourism Barrie. We just love bringing locals and tourism downtown, and we have collaborated with many downtown stores on this tour as well.

The idea for Scary Company came from many things, mainly my love of history. I love when we go on family vacations, we always seek out the ghost tours because it’s entertaining for everyone, and we learn history in a fun way. Then I noticed that we don’t have anything like this in Barrie and Simcoe at all, so I just wanted to get it started. I always loved spooky stuff. I always loved the history behind the buildings. And then I just started the research, I started talking to locals and that was it!

Fall is our busiest season. We did enjoy being out and about and present during the Open Air Dunlop events. Cornelius and I would walk around with our sign and business cards, people were like “what’s this?!”. Those summer days leading into the evening tours were always fun. It gets a bit hot in the afternoon for Cornelius though. *Cornelius stoically nods in agreement.

We operate our Ghost Tours exclusively in Downtown Barrie. The 75 minute tour begins in Meridian Place and winds its way through and around Downtown, with fun surprises along the way. You can rent one of our EKG readers for the tour as well! Without giving any of the tour surprises away… the EKG reader gets really active around Dunlop Street.

Cornelius here is our mascot, the patron of Scary Company, defender of candy, and guardian of the cornfield. Oh, and he loves goats! He’s always roaming around and discovering new haunted places. 

In the spring time, through Scary Company we also operate Heritage walking tours on Saturday mornings at 10:30am, starting at Meridian Place. This tour features stories about Downtown Barrie’s historical buildings and sites.

We have been working on a haunted lake side tour that we will be adding to next summer’s Ghost Tour season. So there will be a tour and spooky stories and lore along Kempenfelt Bay. I am really excited about this new tour and I am looking forward to it next year!
