Thursday, June 25, 2026

Barrie, ON – Summer is arriving in Downtown Barrie with a full calendar of events designed to bring people together, celebrate community, and showcase everything that makes the city’s waterfront and downtown core special.

From Canada Day celebrations and world-class barbecue to outdoor movies under the stars, Downtown Barrie is preparing for one of its most exciting seasons yet. Whether you’re gathering with family, meeting friends, discovering local businesses, or visiting for the first time, the heart of Barrie will be alive with activity throughout July and August—and organizers promise there’s even more to come.

Open Air Dunlop: Canada Day Returns to Meridian Place

The season kicks into high gear on Wednesday, July 1, as Open Air Dunlop: Canada Day transforms Downtown Barrie into a vibrant celebration of community, culture, and Canadian pride.

Starting at 10am, families can enjoy a full day of activities, including the Kiwanis Club Kids Zone, the Brightside Collective Vendor Market, the Barrie Wrestling Canada Day Challenge, and a new interactive experience, Canada Celebrates World Cup Soccer, recognizing Canada’s role as a host nation for the world’s biggest sporting event.

Live entertainment will fill Meridian Place throughout the day, and thousands will gather to share in one of Downtown Barrie’s most cherished traditions, including performances by the beloved Baytowne Big Band. Our traditional Canada Day Cupcake Ceremony will kick off at 5:00 PM and showcase scrumptious cupcakes from Janine’s Bakery

Headlining the evening at 8:30 pm is Terra Lightfoot, one of Canada’s most acclaimed rock artists, earning JUNO and Polaris Music Prize nominations for her powerhouse blend of rock, soul, and blues. Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, her latest album Healing Power has been hailed as a career-best. Described by CBC Music as “one of Canada’s best all-around musicians,” Terra’s electrifying guitar work, commanding voice, and unforgettable live performances promise an incredible Canada Day concert.

The evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display over Kempenfelt Bay at 10:00 PM, followed by the energetic Canada Day Salsa After Party from 10:15 PM to 11:00 PM.

All Canada Day programming is made possible through the support of Celebrate Canada.

Celebrating 20 Years of Barrie Ribfest

Just days later, the aromas of slow-smoked barbecue will once again fill the waterfront as the 20th Annual Barrie Ribfest X, presented by Gelateria Italiana, takes over Heritage Park from July 3–5.

Co-presented by the Downtown Barrie BIA and Ontario Festival Group, this milestone event celebrates two decades of bringing families, food lovers, and visitors together along the shores of Kempenfelt Bay.

Award-winning pitmasters, including Camp 31 BBQ, Sticky Fingers BBQ, Uncle Sam’s BBQ, Crabby’s BBQ Shack, and Big Texas BBQ, will serve up ribs, brisket, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, and all the fixings throughout the weekend.

Beyond the food, Ribfest X offers a packed schedule of entertainment and family fun, including a bustling Marketplace & Midway, live tribute bands, the Youth Battle of the Bands on Saturday afternoon, the always-popular Gelato Eating Contest, a welcoming ceremony, professional rib judging, and the crowning of this year’s champions during Sunday’s closing ceremonies.

A portion of the proceeds will support the expansion of Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, helping ensure the event continues to give back to the community it serves.

Admission is $5, children 10 and under are free, and the event is pet-friendly.

Festival hours are:

 – Friday, July 3: 12 PM – 11 PM

 – Saturday, July 4: 12 PM – 11 PM
