Theatre Block Development (55 Dunlop St W) Lane reduction
The Barrie Waterfront Development project at 55 Dunlop Street West has progressed to a point that they now require a dedicated area within the City’s Mary Street Right Of Way for the delivery of construction materials and staging.
Due to the constraints of the development site, they are requesting the closure of the northbound lane of Mary Street between the Transit terminal access and Dunlop Street West for approximately 2 years beginning in mid-May of 2022.
The closure of the northbound lane will allow for a safe and controlled environment for the delivery of construction materials and staging as shown in attachment 418392-FIG.3.
Under the Site Plan Agreement, securities have been collected to ensure any damage to municipal infrastructure is repaired to the satisfaction of the City of Barrie.
The proposed operation of Mary Street will be as outlined below:
1. Two-way traffic will be permitted on Mary Street between Transit terminal access and Simcoe Street.
2. Northbound traffic will be prohibited between the Transit terminal access and Dunlop Street West.
3. Southbound traffic will be permitted south of Dunlop Street West to Simcoe Street.
The proposed closure will not create operational issues related to sightlines for motorists in the area.
Barrie Transit is aware of the proposed closure and can still access the transit terminal.
As part of the ROWA Permit, they will also be responsible for maintaining proper illumination along this segment of roadway.
Please note that the Three (3) existing on-street parking stalls will be removed to accommodate the staging area.
All residents and property owners in proximity to the northbound closure of Mary Street will be notified a minimum of 10 days prior to the northbound closure.
To help mitigate impacts on the business owners on this portion of Mary Street, Staff will be also requesting the installation of information signs directing patrons to access the businesses off Dunlop Street.
