Description
The MacLaren Art Centre is thrilled to announce our summer season of exhibitions. Join us on Thursday, July 4 for the opening reception and exhibition walkthroughs with several of the exhibiting artists. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
This season, our exhibitions continue to explore the role language plays in contemporary culture, underscoring our building’s history as Barrie’s first public library. These projects, programmed with our annual Carnegie Days festival of art and language, include a major solo show of Derek Sullivan’s deconstructed books and What is here has echoed, a group exhibition exploring the ways in which language is mediated through transmission. Complementing these presentations, artworks on view from our Permanent Collection include woodblock prints by regional artist and illustrator Lucille Oille for The Owl Pen (1947) and Arnaud Magg’s four-part photographic work Scrapbook, revealing the artist’s sustained interest in how we collect, organize and cherish mementos.
