Meridian Place & Memorial Square has Blossomed

It’s spring and Meridian Place & Memorial Square has blossomed! With the canopy up and development nearing completion, this space will add another level of vibrancy to all of Downtown Barrie.

A beautiful, functional and accessible public space at the heart of a community offers a sense of cultural depth, anchored sense of place and welcoming inclusion. The Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA) is proud to say that Meridian Place & Memorial Square will do all this and more. As a place where visitors can connect with the community, this space will be the venue for celebrating all that Downtown Barrie has to offer.

And speaking of celebrating – on Tuesday, April 17th, 2018, the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA) received the award for Large Scale Public Realm Investment & Streetscape for this immensely significant development. Presented by the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA), this award recognizes the monumental effort the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA) has put into making a difference in Barrie’s downtown community.

Mayor Jeff Lehman commented on the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA) receiving the award and noted that, “Great cities have great public spaces and this venue is going to be the heart of the City in many ways.”

Receiving the award coincided with the installation of the canopy posts at Meridian Place. Now with the canopy and posts in place, a sense of how substantial this Downtown venue will be has been established. It’s worth checking out! Creating a beautiful venue for the community that acts as a conduit for visitors to easily access the downtown core from the sparkling waterfront at Heritage Park has been a sharpened focus for the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA). Getting recognized for the development before it’s even complete means so much and being able to open the space up to the community as its epicentre of local culture and history is absolutely energizing.
