Barrie, ON – Downtown Barrie is thrilled to officially announce the return of the Open Air Dunlop Butter Tart Festival, happening Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 10 AM to 4 PM in the heart of the city at Meridian Place.

Following the tremendous success of the inaugural 2024 event—which welcomed more than 40,000 tart-loving visitors—this year’s festival is set to satisfy even more sweet teeth with over 100 Canadian Made butter tart makers, bakers, and a wide array of craft and retail vendors. Beloved Ontario bakeries like Doo Doo’s will return with their award-winning lineup of classic, maple whisky, chocolate peanut butter, and maple bacon butter tarts.

Presented by Gotta Luv ButterTarts in collaboration with the Downtown Barrie BIA, this now-annual celebration promises another unforgettable day of indulgence, local pride, and community connection. Admission is free.

“After last year’s incredible turnout, we knew we had to bring it back—and make it even sweeter,” says Helen Prucha, Gotta Luv ButterTarts owner and event coordinator. “This isn’t just about tarts; it’s about togetherness, supporting Canadian small businesses, and showcasing the heart of downtown Barrie.”

In honour of the original butter tart recipe—believed to have originated with the RVH Auxiliary in 1903—the festival proudly supports the RVH Keep Life Wild Campaign. Funds raised will help sustain essential healthcare services in the community.

Steve Ricalis, Chair of the Downtown Barrie BIA and owner of Donaleigh’s and Dunlop Diner, shares his enthusiasm:

As the sun sets on a tart-filled day, the festivities continue with Open Air Live Music. At 6:00 PM opening performers take the stage and at 8:30 PM, get ready for Shania Twink—a high-energy tribute to Canada’s own Shania Twain’s greatest hits and more—lighting up Meridian Place with a night of singing, dancing, and Canadian country-pop pride.

So mark your calendars for Saturday, July 12, 2025, and prepare for a full day (and night!) of sweet treats, community celebration, and unforgettable entertainment. The butter tarts are back—and Downtown Barrie is ready to serve up another slice of sugary magic.
