Summer Saison in Downtown Barrie

Ahh! The summer saison is the season that brings the warmth. In the brewing world, a saison is a seasonal beer with summery, fruity notes that is brewed in the spring with the intention of full consumption in the summer months. It’s no coincidence that beverages with these notes, whether a craft beer or cider, sparkling wine or a cold sparkling water with fresh citrus, is usually consumed with groups of friends. The summer saison not only brings us out of the house, it also brings us together and we’ve been brewing our own event version of a summer saison that you’re sure to enjoy!

Our long-standing festivals will be kicking the season off over the Canada Day weekend with Promenade Days. This festival is in its 46th year and brings our downtown businesses out of their stores and onto a traffic-free Dunlop Street. New this year is the two-day Barrie Airshow with the CF Snowbirds flying over Kempenfelt Bay. A special showing of Top Gun at Meridian Place with the CF Snowbirds pilots will top off Saturday evening! And don’t miss the Canada Day fireworks over Kempenfelt Bay on Monday night!

The following week, the Craft Beer & BBQ Festival will be taking place at Heritage Park and Meridian Place. This is downtown Barrie’s ‘backyard BBQ’ that turns our sparkling waterfront into a huge smokin’ BBQ showcasing our local and regional Craft Breweries led by Downtown Barrie’s Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery.

With our Lawnchair Luminata event series hosted at Meridian Place we provide a sampling of mid-week and evening offerings including our Wednesday Night Outdoor Movies and Thunder Classics car show along with our Friday Night Live Music Series. Additionally, small samplings of local emerging artists will be performing throughout the downtown area at various times of the day and week.

Beyond these downtown events, our local businesses are always planning activities and opportunities to come together with each other and share in comradery. We’ve been brewing the last few months inside and now it’s time to get out and enjoy! Come enjoy a ‘summer saison’ brew in downtown Barrie!

Promenade Days, Craft Beer & BBQ Festivals Cancelled in Downtown Barrie

As COVID-19 continues to affect our daily lives, the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA) hopes that you, your family, friends and colleagues are safe and well, and are taking the necessary precautions to keep our community safe.

Usually at this time of year, we are busy preparing for both the annual Promenade Days Festival and the Craft Beer & BBQ Festival. However, due to the public health risks associated with mass gatherings, the Downtown Barrie (BIA) has made the difficult decision to cancel these events for 2020.

The 2020 Promenade Days Festival, held annually in conjunction with City of Barrie’s Canada Day celebrations, was scheduled fromJuly 3rd to 5th and the 2020 Craft Beer & BBQ Festival was to take place from July 10th to 12th.

Please note that the Downtown Barrie (BIA) will be contributing to the City of Barrie’s Virtual Canada Day Celebration. We encourage you and your family to tune in.

We recognize that both these events are highly anticipated every year and this decision was not easy to make. Despite the excitement for these events, the health and safety of our members, attendees, volunteers and staff is our primary concern. Thank you for your understanding.

The community is still welcome to visit downtown Barrie and check out our new Dunlop Streetscape due to be completed July 15th for Dunlop Street East and Fall 2020 for Dunlop Street West.
