Monday, April 18, 2016

Nobody can deny the healing power of spending time outdoors on a gorgeous sunny day. Breathing in the fresh air, it provides us with an opportunity to truly recognize and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. It also provides us with an opportunity to move our bodies and become more active. So why stay cooped up inside all day long? Here are five reasons why getting up and getting outside is good for your overall well-being:

1.) Sitting Is The New Smoking

A study based on the Canadian Community Health Survey has discovered that sitting is becoming the “new smoking”, and is leading to a lot of serious health problems for Canadians. So take a break at lunch, get outside and take a nice walk – we have a beautiful waterfront right in Downtown Barrie , let’s use it!

2.) It Could Improve Your Focus and Provide New Perspective

3.) It’s Good For Your Body

Aside from the exercise, getting outside is also great for your immunity and also increases your Vitamin D Levels. So slap on some sunscreen and head outdoors!

4.) You Can Get a Little Social

When you get outside, you see other people and can engage in friendly conversation. Why not pop into the local shops in Downtown Barrie and say hello? You’ll have a great time interacting with the friendly and interesting people found Downtown.

5.) It’s Good For Your Mental Health

The ‘forest bath’ is a popular concept in Japan used to describe the positive benefits of being outside. It’s certainly true that a walk outdoors is definitely good for your mental health, as it allows you to feel refreshed, awake and more positive.

There you have it, getting outside for even just 30 minutes during your work day may just be the thing you need to become healthier, more creative, happier and even make some new friends.
