CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN BARRIE Road Closures in Downtown Barrie

Tuesday, February 18, 2025

Improvements are being made to the drainage systems that run beneath Downtown Barrie. The information featured here will assist you in navigating subsequent road closures and help guide you along the new flow of traffic to and from Downtown.

CLOSURE 1: Heritage Park and Simcoe Street Closure – Simcoe Street is closed from Bayfield Street to Mulcaster Street from now until April 11, 2025. The following parking lots are still accessible – Lakeshore Mews and Heritage Park parking lots if you turn left off Dunlop Street to Mulcaster Street. All the businesses are open as normal. For more information click HERE.

CLOSURE 2: Owen Street Closure – Owen Street will be closed from Collier Street to Dunlop Street East from February 24 – July 2025

Road Closure: The Owen Street full closure will begin on Monday, February 24th for the first stage of work, with active construction beginning the following week. The closure will be from north of Dunlop Street to north of Collier Street including a full closure of the Owen/Collier intersection. This closure will be in place until July 2025.

Vehicle Access: There will be NO access through the closure, therefore a signed detour will generally use Dunlop Street, Mulcaster Street, Worsley Street, and Clapperton Street (signage plan attached for your reference only). Owen Street will be accessible south of Worsley up to the closure and Collier Street will be accessible east of Clapperton and west of Mulcaster up to the intersection closure.

Pedestrian Access: Walkways will be maintained on the west side of Owen Street from Dunlop to Collier (with some interruptions as work progresses). There will be temporary crosswalks in place at the west, north and east legs of the Owen/Collier intersection.
