Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA) contributes $2,400 to local charities.

The goals & benefits of our ‘Community Connects’ events are multi-fold. The goals of these events are to ‘connect’ local customers to local businesses all connected to the Downtown; and the benefit is to further connect them to local charities. The following is an overview of several recent ‘Community Connects’ events and the impact.

Hot Cocoa Trail

$250 Donation to Youth Haven

Since 1987 Youth Haven Barrie has worked diligently towards providing homeless and abused youth between the ages of 16 and 21 with the love, support and life skills needed in order to foster our youth’s sense of well-being and security.  As Simcoe County’s only youth shelter, Youth Haven provides a second chance to approximately 1000 teens annually.

Fresh Air Fridays

$150 Donation to Women & Children Shelter

The Women & Children’s Shelter is committed to providing quality programs and services to women in Simcoe County who are survivors of gender-based abuse and violence. They maintain a 27-bed shelter location for women with or without children, as well as an off-site location for women in the community seeking support a donation of $120 pays for one women & her child/children to spend one week at the shelter.

Curb Appeal

$1000 Donation to David Busby Centre

Helping others help themselves. The David Busby Street Centre focuses on reducing the impact of poverty, homelessness, insufficient employment, addiction and mental health issues through outreach and services. Operating as a drop-in centre in downtown Barrie, they provide a warm, safe environment for homeless or marginalized people, low-income families, the working poor, youth in distress and seniors who are struggling financially.

$1000 Donation to Seasons Centre for Grieving Children

A hidden miracle right here in Downtown Barrie. Seasons Centre for Grieving Children offers free programs for children ages 5 and up, who have experienced a loss in their life, in a safe and healing environment. With multiple rooms designed to help each child through the different stages of grief, this home away from home provides a loving sense of community & family. There are also programs for adults who have experienced the loss of a child.
